Natural Turquoise is softer and more porous than other gemstones. It needs to be handled with care to maintain its beauty and to prevent damage or discoloration. Below are some helpful tips in protecting your investment.

STORING & CLEANING

When storing, consider wrapping in tissue paper and place separately from other harder gemstones, as they can scratch turquoise. Avoid extreme temperatures.

To prevent silver tarnishing, place in a sealable plastic bag; include an anti-tarnish strip for added protection.

Do not use commercial jewelry cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, or steam cleaners to clean turquoise jewelry. These can damage and discolor the stone.

Use a jewelry polishing cloth to remove any tarnish that does develop. A soft brush and water can be used to clean the stone using a soft towel to dry.

CARE

Apply cosmetics or perfume before putting on turquoise as these chemicals may discolor the stone.

Avoid contact with soaps, grease, and harsh chemicals as damage and discoloration can occur. Clean stone with water and soft brush…. dry with soft towel.

Remove jewelry before performing housework, gardening or any strenuous activities that may result in damage due to chemical or physical stress.

Avoid extreme temperatures, prolong sun exposure, or hot water, as turquoise is sensitive to heat.
